changed the fluids in my 93 flstc last night, the primary was a little wet but i hadn't noticed any puddles under the bike. now it is leaking pretty good. my question is, how tight should I have tightened the plug? i didnt want to over tighten it but obviously I must not have gotten it tight enough.
Did you use teflon tape? You need to wrap the plug with teflon or plumbers tape about three times then reinstall. This should fix the leaky drain plug.
What year bike do you have? I have a 1998 and was told by my dealer and my mechanic that I needed to use teflon tape and have been with no problems. Did they switch to a o-ring at a certain year model????????
do not use teflon tape. there is an O'ring that needs to be replaced on the drain plug.
ahh, we did try teflon tape.. I wondered about an O ring this morning on my way in to work. I will swing by the dealership and get one on the way home. thanks for the replies.
On '93,there is no o ring on the drain screw .Correct, use a little teflon tape and leave about 1/8 inch of the screw visible .Make sure it went in straight as it can cross thread very easily...whole nother problem.

thanks for the reply, looks like i will be trying it again tonight.
After looking at it again last night, the leak appears to be coming from the backside of the primary case and not from the plug. So now im dumbfounded as I have no clue what I am doing.
