Trouble shooting a EVO compensator

Trouble shooting a EVO compensator
I'm trying to determine if the compensator on my 98 lowrider is shot. The nut was red loctited and torqued to 160 ft. lbs. and the splines on the crankshaft and the adapter were good. I noticed the I can turn the compensator sprocket quite a bit before it engages and the crankshaft turns. I'm thinking that the spring pack might be worn out. Shouldn't there be some sort of resistance in it or is that normal? It has 40,000 miles on it. If it does need replaced should I go with a new one or a solid sprocket? I appreciate your input guys. Thanks.

If you are hearing a knocking noise from clutch area it may be the compensator spring pack. You should have some movement at compensator when turning it back and forth before motor turns when the beville springs in compensator compress. If you are having a lot of movement with very little pressure to move it, it might be the spring pack.

Whenever I have trouble shooting something, I get a little closer, or change to like a prone position, or use a different (more accurate) gun, but that's just me, and I haven't tried to shoot an evo compensator before. I do have a handgun that could drill one at 200, though. 300 would be a little challenging, but not impossible.
Sorry, couldn't help myself. If you can turn the nut a lot before the crank turns, then I'd say that was not right.
