Default 1987 fxrc Limited Edition

Im looking for info on my 1987 fxrc limited-edition for restoration! I have owned it for 25years but have little history on it. I purchased it from a pawnshop. It was in bad shape when I got it. Will on it's why to being a Smitty type rat bike. The frame was original blue but had been painted very poorly black. I fixed that and many other things over the last 25years I painted it black tho. I don't know at the time it was a limited. Any way I'm a Bodyman and painter so it been many color and has won some trophies back in the day. But now I would like to put it back to OEM ish but not sure what that was? So I'm looking for info that can help mostly colors and tank decal stuff. Is there many way to get a build sheet or something like that?

Start with the shop manual. It will have pics of at least the basic model. Look for some brochures from the era, or a parts catalog.

I've never seen a factory blue frame. They have all been black. I believe 1987 was the first year for black powder coating on the frames, or maybe it was 1988.

I've never heard of that model before, but there are plenty of hits on-line, including this one for sale. It also gets mentioned on my favourite parts website.

Very cool,

I own #679 of 750. The bike pictured is as these should look. As for my bike it still wears its original clothes including the blue frame. Is about 90% stock original. Bars have been changed, naturally the exhaust and a S&S Carb. And is now riding on a front spoke wheel. Other then that its all there. If there is specific pictures you need of my bike let me know. At my first opportunity I can snap what you want to look at specifically. Does your bike still have the numbered plate with the American Flag across the front fork brace? These were as I am told the only year HD put the flag on the custom plate. Would be curious what number your bike was. From what I can tell there are very few survivor 87 FXRC's around. If they are they are they must be stashed, or trashed.... I did see a very original low mileage example going to auction about a year ago. But I have no idea what the hammer price was.

Not a great shot. Those are both my current rides. I let a out of town buddy ride the FXRC that day.

No it don't have the number plate it was gone when I got the bike. It was in very bad shape
The bike had a black tank, (it's the rite tank). But not original. A red back fender ( that was smashed)and a red front fender with a black brushed strip. The head lamp was two fog lamps from a truck.
All the chrome was spray can gold. A lot of chrome was etched with one of those things you mark your tools with so you can id them when they get stolen. The gentleman that owned it before me was an Old Vietnam Vet he had glued old cones to the bolt heads all over the bike.
I thank the dates on the cones had sentimental value. I still have them in my gun case.

Like I said it was a pawnshop purchase 25yrs ago I was 25 and riding a 79 iron head 1100cc sporty. The FXR ran great that's all I cared about At the time.
I work in a body shop at the time and was painting bikes everyday. I just wanted to go fast. Fast it was!

I don't know if you all remember. But in the early 90s there was a 1 year waiting list to buy a new harley and used bikes where rare.

Here's where I'm starting. It's not a good pic. But you can see it's not stock

The forks are oem. Just the trees where changed. The frame is oem. I need a oem rear fender. Numbers match on the motor tho. Also the hub is oem but spokes and 21' not sure if Fxrc came with a 19' spoke or only a 19' mag? I need a Seat, handlebars, sidecovers, ect.

Ok called Harley Davidson archives museum today this is all they had.
Online and on hear there's 750 made but harley sent me this. Also they where not
Able to tell what number my bike is only the it's one of the 736 made?

Not sure way they say 736 made from what I have seen there's 750

Ok so the spoke front is not oem? I have seen a few on line pics and some have the black mag on the front, others a spoke. My bike had a 19" spoke when I got it. it's has the same hub laced with a 21 now. So I need a mag also?
