Default Helicoil cylinder stud

Has anyone had any experience with Helicoil on cylinder studs. One of mine pulled from the case. The case is at my local HD shop getting machined. Was told they will use Helicoil to fix it. I've never heard of or used it before this, people have good and bad to say about using it. Just has me worried about having it fixed and it pulling out again.

Helicoils are used almost exclusively throughout aircraft engines, as part of the original build. If they are competently installed you should be fine. Think of a jumbojet at 40,000 feet - hundreds of helicoils flying in loose formation!

The key is "if done properly". Hopefully, who ever installs it knows what they are doing. YD

In an application like a steel stud bolted into an alloy case, a properly installed Helicoil actually increases strength by providing more surface area at the point of contact.
