Default Bottom Breather Air Cleaner

Going to start putting some performance money in my bottom breather FHLS that’s currently stock. What high flow air cleaner do you like? Thinking of adapting a Ness Big Sucker to bottom breather. Any other recommendations? Don’t think I’m willing to pay $250+ for an air cleaner.

Thanks.

Frank

I just put a big sucker on my 90.

At first, I had visions of all sorts of fettling. Turns out there was nothing to it.

I bought the S&S stealth air cleaner kit for my 90 Heritage and used the stock air cleaner cover. I'm pretty happy with the setup.

Spend the money on the S&S Stealth unit, and upgrade to the larger filter. I have had arlen ness big suckers, screamin eagles, and the S&S unit is the ONLY one that prevents an outflow of gasoline because of the bee's *** cone in the center. ALL the rest of them will develope a lower pressure area at the inside of metal surface that mounts the cover and pulls gas back out of the carb. Stock cover fits back over. Standard filter is a good size but te upgrade makes you crank your leg out a bit, might be too uncomfortable.
ALSO get the prefilter/water sock for it. VERY MUCH WORTH it. You can be set for heavy rain and extend your cleaning interval.
Everything is well under $250.
Cheapest price on 170-0100
$140.58

Are there any high flow setups made for the bottom breathers? Looks like Omaha’s conversion was pretty straight forward.

Is your question whether or not there are any intakes available that include a bottom breather style crank vent port on the backplate?

I don't know of any.

My breather port (coming out of the case, that is) is connected to a tube that just runs behind the transmission and vents from there.

You could always do what I did - hooked it up to the California model stock carb's recirc point which is the rear of the throat of the carb and gets sucked into the intake track - bypassing the leaking out of the air filter and going straight through the manifold to the intake track.

I’m good with the crankcase vent on my bike but as you know the mount up for the air cleaner is different between a later head venting evo is different from the earlier bottom venting evo. My question was whether or not there are any high flow air cleaners produced for the earlier bottom venting evos. Sorry if I wasn’t clear about that.

I have spent a fair amount of time looking and haven’t seen any. I haven’t looked at any of the available air cleaners that cost over $300 though.

I don't know of anyone that makes a High Flow A/C for pre 93 Evo motors, I know because I looked for one also. Your only option is to buy a 93 or later style A/C and modify it to work on your bike as suggested by Omaha. He used one on his bike and made a video of it, it's really not that difficult. (the Arlen Ness A/C works well in this application)

Omaha, if you can find an air cleaner cover for an `89 or earlier BT, it will not have the cutout for the CV carb.
