Default Is my Evo cursed?

Ok...front bearings done.

Took 4 hr. round trip to Caddo Lake. Bike ran great. Next morning started and idle was low. So turned off to restart. Just cranked, so gave it a little throttle. Unholy grinding noise from right side...starter?

Went out next morning. Started right up, and went on short ride. Home. Turn off. Try to start when hot. Only cranking. Throttled and same grinding noise. And I got 16 check engine flashes 5 seconds after fuel pump shut off every time I hit the run switch. And a new 55 code ECM.

Checked codes again...32 . Installed new cam position sensor. Cleared codes. Battery and ECM fuse both unhooked. Just went out and started first time. And eight more times. Throttle start fine also, no more grind.

So for now, everything is back to normal. I had no idea the CPS could cause so many problems.

And how did a failing CPS cause that throttle-start grind?

BTW, this was the original '98 sensor. Rivets still in cover.

It looks like all the sealing goo has disappeared.....I bet that sound has been tamed now whatever the specific cause and if not mistaken it does look like something got hold of it!

Goo has been running out the hole for a while. Got some dirt on it from laying on the ground.

I don't know how horrible a sound it would make if your IAC actuator was stripping out but that might be the grinding noise. Maybe. I'd also say it could be the starter too. I just replaced mine. Over 300 clams. Pretty tasty job too. You have to pull the outer primary and the two screws that hold the starter in are hard to get to unless you have a 12" ball end socket.

Hope I never have to find out. Hell, I can't even get the round chrome vibrating end cover on my starter to tighten up. The screw just keeps on turning.

threads stripped....retap and use new screw....may need to go one size bigger cause if the current screw is free spinning there's not enough meat to make regular size threads out of. Crap do happen.......
