Default Dexterity of a gorilla? CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT!

I can’t seem to adjust my clutch. I just went through a whole tranny/mid control swap on my 88 FXR over the last couple of months.

I’ve adjusted the clutch at least 6 times today. The clutch will not disengage. It shifts in to gear but when release the the clutch lever the gear never catches. What am I doing wrong? I think I’m adjusting the screw in the clutch hub to much.

any ideas?

Anytime I'm having "issues" with clutch adjustment...the FIRST place I look is under the right side transmission cover. I don't know what the '88 setup looks like, but on my '85 there's a collection of small parts under there (clutch release finger, "throw-out bearing", bearing spacers, and right side push rod end that are critical to achieving AND MAINTAINING correct adjustment of the clutch. On my '85 if I adjust all the "play" out of the clutch handle, making it nice and snug rather than having about 1/16 to 1/8" of "slop"...those little parts will be destroyed in short order.
Just a thought...Your '88 may be different.

If it doesn't help after the adjustment process - I had a similar experience when my release bearing disintegrated.

Little confusing the way you stated it. It goes into gear but won't move when you release the lever, right? Probably something simple but get us caught up on what all you did. Forget about the mid controls...

I remember you had a bad clutch hub, messed up main shaft. Then you replaced the gear set (?) and what clutch assembly did you use (spline or tapered)? What year gear set and year of clutch assembly?

Did you replace the long clutch push rod that goes thru the main shaft? Did you get another adjuster screw or use the old 2 piece that it had originally?

You mean the clutch will not engage...

You need to give more info, what gearset, what type clutch, what clutch pushrod and adjuster...

Gears came from 05 touring bike.

clutch hub came from a 92 dyna.

when I put the bike in gear and release the clutch it doesn’t grab. I tried it first and second gear.
