Default Ignition Upgrades for Pre-90's Evo

I've been trying to get info on ignition upgrades, but it all seems geared to newer machines (surprise, surprise). I've read about the Screamin' Eagle modules, but the availability of them for an 89 Evo seems very limited, and there is another, seemingly unavailablepart required to make it fit correctly. Any ideas? I'm not looking to do a major upgrade, just something a little better than stock that can be easily installed without re-timing etc.

There are lots of aftermarket parts for you. My fav independent shop put a Crane on my '86 and I could immediately tell the difference in smoothness and power, especially better cold starts - like "right now."

It also has stage 2 with Andrews 27, Mikuni 42, etc. and runs as good as my 02 fuelie Deuce.

fitted Crane Hi-4 to my 85 FXEF about 11 years ago. Lower vibration, better gas mileage. Easy to troubleshoot - that first one finally died after ten years of faultless service, got another one in the nosecone now.

I love them - great kickstart setting helps me too.

You need matching Crane coils. They fit in the OEM coil position.

I just had a Dyna 2000P module installed with a EV27 cam in my dresser, which is a 1990.

I have been running a Dana S on mine since 1989 over 90k miles with no problems other than the fly weights. and I found the fix for that one.

got all the old stuff off. module, OEM wiring ,coil, ignition box
only uses the wire from 12v power and tach wire from tach
tomorrow, thurs.,go to the doc early. visit mom and dad and run home and try to get installed before g'sons practice
why does everything have to get in the way of the "important stuff"?
