Andrews EV-46 cam
I see alot ofpeople usingEV-27camsfor there builds. I was lookin to use the EV-46. Is this a bad idea on a 1996 fxsts stage I motor? Do I need more compression for the EV-46? Nightrider's site says it's a bolt in cam. Just wanted to get alil compare & contrast from members.

RE: Andrews EV-46 cam
I'm interested to see some replies to this thread. I just ordered 10 to 1 screamin eagle pistons and an EV46 cam for my 1993 FXSTC so I hope it works out well. Should be going shortly so I can let you know what I think but obviously break in will take a bit of time in the winter.
I am using new lifters, stock push rods and stock springs.

RE: Andrews EV-46 cam
I did a build a couple years ago on my 90 eglide. Called Short Block Charlie and asked about a Evo build comparable to my 95" TW build. This is what I got. Charlie bored the jugs .005 over, done a Scottsman head/valve, deckedand ported. Valves the same as the SE heads. Flat top pistons, adjustable pushrods, and an EV 46 cam. Bike ran out excellent. From about 3000 rpm @60 mph it would scream, but I had to be moving. I talked to John Golden of Rolling Thunder Dyno and he asked why I went with a EV 46 on that heavy a bike. I really did not know, I just wanted to pass with out down shifting and I could do this with the 46.. Golden said that the EV 46 was more suited for the lighter softails and dynas, not a dresser. So, I called SBC and asked about a cam more suited for my dresser. SBC said go with a EV27, so that is what I did. It pulled that dresser fro about 1500 rpm to redline. I am not sure, because I haven't been on Nightrider in a while, but I think you will find most EV 46's are used in the lighter bikes. Which is what you have if I am not mistaken. Just my .02.............

RE: Andrews EV-46 cam
Your cam selection should take into account were in the rpm band you spend a majority of the time. Like Paco saida cam with that much duration is going to feel flat in the lower rpm's. If your still running stock compression it's going to be exagerrated. The cams a bolt in because you can use the stock springs and lifters. It doesn't mean your going to get satisfactory performance if the rest of the bike is basically stock. Call some of the cam manufacturers and get their input on what cam to use based on the rest of your combo.

RE: Andrews EV-46 cam
I've put about 900 miles on my 93 FXSTC with the EV46, 10 to 1 SE pistons and the rest of the stage 1 stuff (but I still need ignition) and I love it. In my first post in this thread I stated that I was going with stock springs, I installed theAndrewssprings instead. They were cheap and I'm sure they will be helpful when I get a higher thanstock rev limit. Totally different bike that stock. It was so underpowered stock I could hardly stand it. Not that it's a power house now or anything but it is quite the improvement and much more fun to ride.
