Your stock revlimiter is set at 5200 rpms IIRC.
If you still have the stock set up and aren't doing 100+ then I promise you aren't cranking too high.
That said if I was gonna change a sprocket to lower rpms in high gear I'd go with the Baker compensating sprocket and new primary chain so I didn't have to pull the inner primary. JMO

Just ride it for a while, the bike will let you know what it needs.
BTW, we like pics.

Be assured your bike and engine are just fine! By all means alter your gearing if you prefer, however there is no need to. Try ear plugs - best tuning aid known to man! And yes, that is a serious suggestion, I've been using them since the 1970s.

Great idea..!!
Absolutely...and no..I'm not trying to be funny either.
I love reading about altered gearing/ sprockets/pulleys/belts...etc,etc. Thanks to all who are sharing their thoughts and experiences even though sometimes working through all the numbers makes my brain hurt.
That said...every time I think about potential mods to my own ride (1985 FXRS)...I just stop myself with a reminder that she and I have shared 285,000 mi. of highway with her "drive parts" bone-stock. What do I think I'm gonna improve..???

I just picked up a 85 FLHTC and did the 65 from a 70 rear sprocket swap it amounts to around 300 or so RPMs in hi gear on the hi way - for me the 292 is the deal - instead of 3000 its 2700 much more user friendly
I used a dyna belt 133 tooth instead if the stock dresser at 136 and it fit like a glove
have done this quite a bit

Yup, I did the same thing only havent tested it yet since the motor ain't done yet. 133T belt from a 91-99 Dyna and a 65T pulley from a 1995 Softail, spent less than $100 for all of it on eBay.
