FXR2 came in Arresting Red (625 built) and Stone Cold Blue (276 built). FXR3 came in Candy Emerald Green with flames (620 built) and Dark Candy Blue with flames (Although a letter from HD claims the number of these built was 64, that number is now believed to have been in error, and much higher).
FXR4s were Candy Tangerine (316 built) and Yellow Pearl (664 built).
Total numbers of CVO FXRs was way higher than 800 total, and there never was a black one.
Don't feel bad. Most salespeople just tend to talk out of their azz when they don't know anything about a subject.
Edit: I just ran across some information that the Blue Flame number has been corrected by HD to be a total of 300.

There is an exception to the TC's starting in 89 and EVO's ending in 88.
The limited production FXR 1 through 4 were produced through the 2000 model year. Only about 800 ever made.
They all had a carb'd Evo engine.
The FXR on the ac cover was followed by a small number up by the R/. It identified a color. Red, black, tangerine, blue and yellow. For some reason #4 was on the tangerine and yellow bike. I think black was #1.
The 99 Softails were TC's. And of course the 99 models were available in August of 1998 for sale to be registered that year but the model year was 99.

Twin Cams didn't come out in 88 and 89.
There is no FXR1 model.
Softails in 1999 had Evo engines not Twin Cams. The first Softail Twin Cams were in 2000 with the TC88B engine.

Better tell my '99 Springer it has the wrong engine though. But luckily that wrong engine I enjoy is an Evo, not a twinkie.
