If you do a search you will find many threads on what oil to use.

The short answer is use what you want.

I just run castrol gtx 20w-50.I've never heard of an engine faliure due to the wrong type of oil.I have heard of oil pumps failing or running out of oil and the engine locked up.

Come on chaps, we don't need to talk about oil! Kenny, use 'search', but stand back. Let us know when you've read enough and what you decide on. We're all going out for a ride....

My brother in law has been running it for the last ten years with no problem

Both mechanics have good points, the Harley says the slicker synthetic oils are too slippery for the roller bearings causing the rollers to skid along the surface instead of rolling like they are designed. Plus he said the oil on the synthetic runs off. He recommended Harley 20w50 oil, the other guy recommends belray oil.

What are your guys experience and thoughts.
Always have and always will use Mobile1 20w50 Synthetic. It just works.

I was using Mobil 1 20-50, figuring cooler would slow down excessive engine blowby.
Turns out a top end rebuild fixed the blow-by and now regular oil works fine. Don't plan to go back to synthetic.

As long as you change your oil at recommended intervals you can use whatever you please.

Since my Harley mechanic (local mom and pop place... I hate stealers) runs a special every spring I just change it out once a year. I don't care if I ride 5000 miles or 500 for the year. You also have your choice geniune Harley oil or Amsoil. I use Amsoil.

EVOs are TOUGH frikkin' engines: put in what you want and it will run ! Personally, I use Valvoline 20-50 DINO oil in mine and change to straight 50 when the outside temps are hitting 100s. Just my .02 worth

I have my wife and all ouf our friends, family and neighbors save up all their grease and oil from frying bacon, potatoes, fish, whatever. Since America is an obese country there is no shortage of oil.
