New tool

Someone suggested welding a nut onto an 11/16ths socket to better access the locknut on the outside of our clutch hubs.
So I figured what the hell I would try it. About 1/2 way through a friend suggested I just use a spark plug socket but the closest I could find was a 17 mm. Would that fit an 11/16ths nut? Anyway here is the new socket. BTW this is an EVO tool for an EVO bike please don't move this thread to a forum that wouldn't appreciate it!!!!! |
11/16's is .6875 inches. 17 mm is .669 inches, or approx. 1/64 inch too small. It MIGHT fit, but I'm at work and cant try it here. If it does it will be mighty snug.
I've always used an 11/16 offset box wrench for this job. I wrap the handle with a couple of layers of electrical tape so it won't mar the primary cover. My offset wrench has just enough "drop" to reach the adjuster nut perfectly. One more tip: lose the thin "jam nut" on the clutch adjuster, and replace it with a full height nut. |

I was pretty good at hitting my hand on the outer primary with it though!!!:D I hadn't thought about getting a regular nut to go on there!!!:icon_doh: Thanks for the idea!!! |
Cool, good idea. I'm not impressed with your welding though.

I bought a cheap wire-feed welder and watched a few you tube videos trying to teach myself how to weld. Anyone with 5 minutes of instruction has more experience than I do!!! But that doesn't stop me from trying!!!:D |
If it's the same as the nut on the twin cam clutches then I used a 17mm off set wrench from HF because they were out of stock of the standards ones
