Default Trip off to a great start, regulator problems

So, haven't been on much, occasionally browsing because the bager has been running great since I built it. Anyhow, 100mi into my trip this year, the regulator stoped regulating. It would show 16v on the gauge at higher rpms. HD said that the '95 Ultra Classic regulator updated to a '97 part number. I bought it and wired it in (butt connected). Since the connectors changed, I had to guess the stator polarity, now I have no charge at all.. anyone run into something like this? Could the stator be reversed?

There is no polarity from the stator. It outputs AC current.... Did the stator test good before you put in the new regulator?

That's kinda what I thought, but it was charging when I took the old regulator off, just too much at higher rpms. It would spike 16v at 3k. So, I figured the state was fine.. I'm out of town, so I'll have to buy a volt meter to check more I gues.. thanks for the quick response!

So, finished my ride and thought I'd update the thread.. Apparently, when I stripped the wires to splice the new regulator in, I caused a short in the stator. Long story short, regulator was over charging and the stator shorted. If anyone is looking for a regulator for their '95Ultra, the -95 part updated to a -97A, requires new connectors or hardwiring..
