The VR1 is called "racing oil" because of the higher zinc content.
The auto manufacturers have been requiring lower zinc content in oils because the zinc can make cat converters live a shorter life.
So they keep the higher zinc content and call it "race oil" to get around the whole cat converter thing. YD

Oil has always been a personal preference, I can't make anyone understand my perceived benefits of multigrade oils. The chart provided by 89 FLHTC covers it pretty well. The ambient temp. range on a straight weight oil is narrow. I started the scooter this AM at 56 degs. Outside the range of a 50 weight oil, not sure when the oil light would go out, or gauge register, viscosity is the resistance of a liquid to flow, at 56 degs. a straight weight oil is going to have a lot of resistances. Which means to me unnecessary wear on unlubercated moving parts. Me I'm just a gooden, but my 2 cents. But I would take time to look at chart provided by 89 FLHTC, but hell I'm a gooden.

I use the vr 50 myself. Even in the twink. The race only oil is a little different. It can be fir qualifing or? But it's got additives when hot......gives off a bit of........well shall we say and advantage on the competition..lol. We have put nitro meth in oil to make hot oil for qualifying. It's not the same oil u will find at a parts store. Lol. So u will be safe with high zinc race oil.
