What is so great about FXR's?

I don't think you struck a nerve Johnny, it's more like "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." Feel free to inject FXRness anytime, most of us appreciate them too.
.....and don't hesitate to bring up the shovel versions either. Lots of former and current shovel owners here. Hell, we even entertain sportster topics too!

The FXR bikes were made for just nine years, with a few specials a little later. Total Harley production in 1985, when the Evo was introduced, was just 26k big twins, of all models, rising to 67k in 1991 when the FXR was discontinued. That's a total of just 250k big twins over 9 years, of which only a proportion were FXRs. Harley made twice that many bikes last year alone! So we can see how rare, relatively speaking, our Evos are and FXRs in particular. We are but a pimple on the world-wide population of bikes! Keep together bro....

Actually it wasn't the cost of the frames that killed the FXR models, it was the cost of assembly. They needed to compete with the Japanese makers. One advantage they had was the engine and transmission could be installed as one complete unit. The evo engines had to be installed separately from the trans in the frames. Regardless of the model.
With the twin cam, the engine and trans could be completely assembled and installed in the frame as one unit. Saved bundles of cash on the assembly line.
I still have my 84 FXR and love it.

Hey, if that's the way it is that's the way it is.
As far as not broke, well that's an opinion.
More like adjusting then fixing.
Just because it isn't "broke" don't mean it can't be adjusted.
FXR's are not Dyna's....Hell, Dyna's aren't Dyna's anymore.
I'd rather have an all FXR section as well. Just my opinion.
Not a knock on the site, been a member and enjoyed it for a long time now.
It's a great site and run really well.

I owned an '82 FXRS that I modded a bit. I lowered the front forks by 2" making it necessary to use a shorter jiffy stand. I added 14" apes and a low profile saddle. I was never a fan of the style, so I sent her down the road and picked up my '03 TC. More nostalgic of a look. I'm no cafe racer so the 'improved' handling was not an issue.

But if there have been any that fitthe bill, I’m sure they were chosen due in part by how versatile the frame is designed. Just be ause Eric Buell was in olved in its development, don’t mean it a race bike (;
It’s so much more than that from what I read here.
When I look at the modern day touring models, I can see a little fxr geometry peeking through LOL

2 of our fairly original fxr's from one side of the spectrum to the other
the FXRD has air ride front and rear tallest hd I have ever ridden and nothing i have ever ridden made by hd will lean into a corner like it does
the FXR4 is exact opposite fast barhopper that can do long rides if needed
light fast great brakes fairly trustworthy easy to work on.
no computer crap
My lady rides the FXR4 shes only 5'2"
Only improvement i would make is making a 6 speed transmission.
