1998 fairing w/ gauges on a 85 flhtc
Howdy all, I am new to the forum. I am starting a project and all help is wanted. I have a 1985 flhtc that is stock. I am going to try and change the fairings to a 1998 model with electric gauges. As soon as I get the inner fairing and wire harness I will dive in. I am going to need a wire diagram for a 98 and a 85 flhtc. After i get the fairings mounting I will tackle the other issues such as the change from a cable speedo to a electronic speedo and so on. I will add pics in the days to come as i work on the project.

Good luck. I can't help, my parts manual is for '87-'90 but am interested in following your progress as I may want to try something similar in the future. I hope you can keep a good diary with informative pictures.

Picked up an outer fairing yesterday and the inner with gauges and wiring harness came in to day. Everything looks good. I have to work the weekend, so I will dive in on monday if I don't get called in to work.

Yes--if you can, please keep us posted on how it goes, look forward to hearing about it.

I have the factory manuals ( service and parts manuals) and can make you copies of the wiring diagrams that are in there, the manual covers from 84 to 90 modle years. let me know what you need.

so any updates on hot it is working out? i am doing the same thing to my 84 flhtc....if you have any pics that be cool...

It can be done,Ive got a 95 faring on mine, but with cable speedo. You wont have anywhere to install the stock speed sensor,so youre gonna have to come up with another alternative.im not sure if an aftermarket sensor will be compatiable with the speedo, let us know how you over come this problem,as ive been toying with changing mine as well.

im gonna go out and look, but i think my 98 electra glide still has a cable operated speedo

I believe he's right, a 98 dresser should still have the cable speedo.

I have a 1990 FLHS, which came with a windshield as stock. I now have an early 80s glassfibre batwing on it, but did try fitting a later one with inner and outer fairings. Have to admit I gave up, so am interested in seeing how you get on. Best of luck!
