I own both. The RK sits a lot, as the Ultra is my bike of choice here in Oregon. They're both nice bikes, just sayin........ there's a reason it's called "Ultra".
Both have been dependable and not too hard to work on, so it's really a matter of creature comforts.
Back to your gut feeling.......

Well a dealer friend of mine called me and showed me the Nada Book on it and they have it for $6300, now retail is higher about $7300 from a dealer? So I offer him $7500 seems fair and now I will see if he wants to do the deal? My dealer friend said if I trade it in this coming spring he would only give me $6200 and it may be lower if the book shows it lower in 5 months ? It is getting colder up here and even though the bike is mint to lose $2300 dollars on a trade in in 5 months does not make sense? But if I like it and he does not sell it? I will pay less in the spring any way? Hey this is tough? My friend stopped me just before I bought it had the bank check and all to go but he called and maybe saved me from over paying ?

An Evo is for life, not just for Xmas! Don't buy a bike to sell it after a few months, that will be a waste of money whatever you buy. Winter is a good time to buy things like bikes, Spring when the first warm days is the worst!

I bought that exact bike 2 years ago. Paid 10k for it with 2,500 miles on it. Has been trouble free except for needing valve cover gaskets and a head temperature sensor. The gaskets were dry due to it being a garage queen. It's got 28k on it now and is ridden daily. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy that bike any day of the week and twice on Sunday. No plans on selling it.

I agree with others, offer him the 8K and if he turns you down give him the 8.5 and be done with it. It sounds okay to me, just a weee bit high, but keep it for life and have a big piece of CAKE.
