Default Too loud?

Hey guys,

I have v&h short shot, it's loud, ive got use to it, but I'm thinking maybe too loud in a sense I have to start it up at 0630 every morning in the apartments carpark and theres no way getting round it.

if I changed the pipes longer like the longer v&h ones, will it lessen the noise?

thanks

you can get or make some baffles to quiet them down...measure the inside diameter of the pipes an order some....generic ones are cheap on ebay. you will have to drill a small hole in the bottom or back of the pipe for a set screw.

these look interesting https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exhaust-Snu...FXZvG~&vxp=mtr

here's some cheapies: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAG-PIPE-M...hZrsdV&vxp=mtr
you can get some material to wrap around those to silence them more.

here's the big money ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vance-Hines...VXvfIS&vxp=mtr

I have the V&H baffles in my softail dual's an it's louder than stock but not enough to wake up the neighbors but makes a nice tone abut 2500 rpms

don't forget you might have to retune after an exhaust change.

I had the Short Shots on my Street Bob, then I tried a set of Straight Shots. Both had quiet baffles. The baffles did not really make it quieter, but they did give the pipes a lower tone not so trebly or barky. There was no real noise level difference between the Short Shots and the longer Straight Shots, however the Straight Shots had the exhaust exiting further back on the bike instead of directly below your ears like the Short Shots-that made a nice pleasing difference.

Get rid of them. They're **** for performance and way too loud to the point of attracting bad attention. Quiet baffles only slightly take a bit of the bark out of them. They'll still wake the dead when you start it up

This is exactly what I was thinking, i researched the quiet baffles but by the looks of it, it doesn't make any significant difference. I need to get hold of an exhaust that doesn' make too much noise as a short shots.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Get the quiet baffles. Made a big difference on my 3" Slip ons. Couldn't be any happier.

If it's too loud you're too old!

You might try a set of Thunder Torque inserts in the Short Shots. They'll quiet your exhaust down a bit and give it a deeper tone, plus it will likely give you a bit more "umph" at lower rpms. They may require retuning to get the most out of them, though it probably won't be a necessity. This is probably the cheapest option for you at around $30 or so.
