Screamin Eagle or Standard HD Gaskets
Alright just wanted to throw this out there and ask. I had a set of Arlen Ness Magnaflow Low Downs on my Iron 883. Needless to say the flanges on this exhaust were poorly welded and they broke. I've seen 3 other post relating to Magnaflow exhausts having the same exact issue. I am in negotiation with Magnaflow on this and have since ordered a set of V&A Sideshots to replace the crappy Magnaflows. My question is should I use the stock HD cone type exhaust gaskets OR go with the flat type Screamin Eagle. Even though the SE gasket have less material they seem to be sturdier and everyone tells me that since I'm going V&H the SE gaskets would be the way to go. I'm not a tinkerer I tend to find what works and stay with it so I don't want to have to pull these back off ever again unless I'm having to repair something else and the exhaust has to come off to get to it. Any advice is appreciated thanks

I like and use S&S Exhaust port - flange or JAMES Exhaust Gaskets .I'm running Thunderheaders on my 89 FXR, 01 FXDX SUPER GLIDE SPORT and
03 FXDL Anniversary Lowrider . On All MY S&S Engined Customs I build I prefer to use S&S Exhaust port gaskets which are mated properly to the "swell"of the exhaust port . I've never used(only removed) the stock H-D exhaust port gaskets when removing the stock exhausts and replacing the systems with THUNDERHEADERS .

It all depends on what the end of your headers look like (the part that goes into the port). If they're flat then use SE flat gaskets, two if it pulls the pipe too deep into the port.
Standard tapered gaskets if the ends of the header pipes are tapered. That said, my Fat Cat header pipes fit best with D&Ds tall square gaskets, the ends of the headers are flat.
