Default Power Duals O2 sensor bung

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a set of power duals for what seemed like a good price but it turns out they're setup for a 2009 and not my 2011 Ultra. The O2 sensors are in the wrong spot. I read on here that additional bungs can be welded on but I'd like ask again to be sure. I figure I will put them where V&H put them on the newer pipes but I want to make sure I get the sensor depth correct. Any tips? Should I just sell them and buy the correct headers? I should be able to make my money back easily enough.

Thanks to all who reply.

Gregg

Sell it so you aren’t hacking up a pipe and get the right ones

Tank, I'll let you know when I have them in my hands. They're being shipped. I do know based on pictures that they only have the upper, larger sensor bungs.

They can probably be modified to work. I had a similar problem when I did my stage 1 upgrade. I found a great deal on my Cobra Speedster Duals for 2009 models. I knew that the O2 sensor bungs were different, but was planning on eliminating the O2 sensors using the Fuel Moto microtuner. The older ones did not use the O2 sensors. When I got everything in, the newer microtuners still use the O2 sensors - oops. I called both Fuel Moto and Dynojet to confirm that the newer tuners used the sensors, and the "O2 optimizers" were not available. The exhaust was a close-out, so no returns. I looked at a couple of options but finally decided to add O2 sensor bungs.

I carefully measured everything, including where the heat shields attached and marked the headers where the O2 sensors bungs needed to be. I took them to a local muffler shop one afternoon after work and talked to the owner, told him what I needed - 12mm O2 bungs in these spots. He called his parts warehouse to make sure he could get the bungs there the next day and told me to leave it with him. I stopped by the next day and picked them up, $60 cash including the bungs, plugs for the larger 18mm bungs, drilling the two holes, and welding. Installation went great, and even with the extra cost, my full exhaust was less than what lots of people pay for just slip-ons.

As far as the depth, the ones added to my header were the same size / depth as what were on the stock pipe. I'm not sure if there are different heights of bungs.

I guess I'm mainly concerned about the sensor depth because I noticed that the sensor bungs on the newer power dual pipes have saddles on them and go in at an angle. Maybe I should use the regular bungs and not the angled ones that may not put the sensor into the pipe as deep.

I used a power commander with my headers just plugged the sensor hole up with screw in plugs. Also had it dyno tuned. Have done this on three bikes 09 put 69000 on 14 put 54000 on 16 still riding with no problems.

I thought about going that route too but I already have an FP3 (not used yet).

The number I found on the headpipe is D570FC. I think the part number is 16759 based on the headpipe number.
