Default Bolt Striped

Buddy of mine accidentally striped the upper exhaust stud on the front cylinder of his 98 FXLR, i told him i'd try and help but i can't seem to get the tap &amp\\; die set to go around the stud. Can this just be replaced with a new stud? whats the procedure on replacing (i've never had to replace one)

Most studs screw in and often have a sealer/locker compound on them. I have a stud removal tool that grabs the stud and allows you to un-screw it. In most cases I use some heat around where the stud is screwed in to get it loose. One trick the works well on threaded studs is to heat the area up and then melt some wax around the area where it screws in. Let it cool and the wax will wick in between the head and stud. This makes it easier to remove. Order the new stud and you will be able to see how it is made. Don
