K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?

RE: K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?
I just got the SE kit. I don't know if it was like this before but it now has the internal passages. And the k&n i looked at had that too but the filter was to oval one so not as much flexability in the cover area. But i will tell you one thing i will look up the k&n filter to replace the one harley gave in the kit. Its not the blue one anymore but it definatly feels cheap.

RE: K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?
Thanks socalsoftail, I appreciate your input. I'm betting (from the lack of replies here & other forums where I asked the same ?) that there actually isn't much difference between the two.
But.......I figured that K&N is sorta the benchmark of hi-flow air kits, & so decided on the RK-3909. I just installed it along w/a PCIII USB (canned map) & am very pleased w/the initial 'seat o'the pants' results.
Now, if my Andrews TW26G cam kit will get here I'll be off to the dyno-tuner!!!!

RE: K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?
Vic,
I think what you will find is that the K&N filter RK3909 will flow as much air as the SE, but if you use the 3909 in a stock air box you will have restricted flow due to the air box design. The SE kit gets rid of the restrictive air box, and that, as much as the filter, is what gives increased air flow.
What a lot of people do is use the RK3909 with the stock air box, but drill some holes in the back of the air box to allow more air.
If you cam the bike, you are definately going to need more air that the stock air box will flow.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Bill

RE: K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?
I may be misunderstanding the last suggestion, but the RK 3909 I just installed on my 06 Deuce dispenses with the back of the stock air box entirely. You just reinstall the front, which superficially looks stock, but there is no back at all on it, so the filter has some protection from rain, etc. but can suck huge gobs of air without restriction.

RE: K&N RK-3909 vs. SE Air Kit?
Brian,
You are correct. I was thinking the question was about the K&N filter element HD-1499 that is made to be used with the stock HD air box.
The RK-3909 is a kit, much like the SE or the Ness "Big Sucker", and I am sure it will flow just as much air as the SE or the "Big Sucker".
Sorry for the mixup. I will try to pay more attention to the question in the future.

Bill
