Engine would not idle

Engine would not idle
Weird thing happened to my recently acquired 2008 FLSTC Heritage Softail with 4,300 miles.
Maybe someone here knows what happened.
Bike ran great yesterday. Started it up this morning. Appeared to be fine. I proceeded on my way with no issues until I got onto the local roadway about 1/4 mile from home and stopped for a traffic light. Then it happened; the bike stalled at the light. Restarted the bike but it would not idle. It stalled again. So I had to twist the throttle a little to keep the engine from stalling again. I decided to head back home; and it continued to stall at each stop sign on my way back home. The engine also popped a few times alone the way. It did this all the way home. Got home and shut off the ignition. I stood there looking at the bike trying to understand what just happened. Of course I was very upset. I just got the bike a week ago and got it on the road this past Friday. The tank had about 1/4 +/- tank of fuel.
I believe I removed the fuel tank cap and looked inside to see how much fuel was in there. I did see fuel. So I restarted the bike after waiting just a couple of minutes and it started right up and idled normally. Decided to try riding again and this time the engine ran flawlessly without any problem from that point on.
What the heck happened? I am concerned this might happen again. HELP!

IAC may have stuck in the down position.
Idle Air Contror.
Lets air in when the throddle plate is closed.
Little top hat thing on top of the TB.
Little hole in the top inside is the air port to go around the plate. there is a valve in there that can stick.
Squirt carb cleaner--Not brake cleaner-- which can burn and make poison gas.
