Question about Progressive Suspension Shocks
Hello everyone,
Not exactly sure if i am articulating my question correctly but if anyone could try and help me out that would be awesome,
So my question is about the progressive 970's 12.5" legnth shocks,
If the standard length is 12.5" and these are adjustable shocks is it possible to adjust them as you will to say 12" or even lower? The stock shocks on a street bob are 12 inches and those suit me perfectly anything higher in length and i fear it will be to high for my size, However its time to upgrade the shocks and have never had anything other than the stock shocks, so yeah is it possible to adjust the 12.5" progressive 970's so that there length is around 12"?

No. The length of a shock cannot be adjusted.
However, the preload (sag) can be.
Basically, it sets how much the shock compresses (or doesn't) when the bike is mounted/ loaded.
Also, I recently noticed in the Fat Book that the stock shock length on my '14 FXDB is 12.6".
Not sure what year yours is.
I have 2 sets of progressives. Tall and short, depending on the ride I'm to partake in.
Good luck!

Thanks for your response,
I think i understand so just a follow up if you don't mind,
If i were to purchase the 970's would i be able to adjust the sag so that it sits around the same height as my 12" stock shocks when compressed (when i sit on the bike)?

I think what you are going to find is that when you adjust the pre-load (sag) is that you are not going to affect the height of the bike (substantially) as much as you will the softness/stiffness of the ride and with less pre-load the likely-hood of "bottoming out" the shocks over any rough surfaces will increase...........someone please correct me if I am mistaken........broad shoulders, I can take it if I'm wrong
