Default How to access the rear master cylinder on a Dyna Switchback

Anyone know how to access, i.e., get the cover off the rear master cylinder of a Dyna Switchback? The owners manual recommends flushing the brake lines every 2 years or 10,000 miles, and the front, no problem. But H-D decided to hide the rear master cylinder behind and under the frame where there is no way to get a Phillips screwdriver on the cover screws. It appears you have to remove the exhaust, then a frame member to get at it. Or Is there a simpler way? Do you disconnect the cylinder from the frame and drop it down? Why in the hell would they locate a component that is supposed to be serviced regularly in such an inaccessible location? Any help appreciated.

Mike, hi from the UK and welcome to HDF.

I can't answer your query, never having owned a Switchback. I do however heartily recommend you buy the FSM, which should answer that and so many other things you will bump into! You could ask again in the Dyna model section, where there should be plenty of Switchback owners.

It is not just the Switchback that has that problem. My Wideglide is also a pain. I did it with a flexible screwdriver but even that was hard to do. Much like the oil filter Harley loves to put stuff in the wrong places.

So there is no answer to this question then? I really don't want to drop the exhaust just to access that, but it looks like that is the only way. Really screwed up design...but, I need to to get to that. Going to have to drop the exhaust then.

As already suggested, buy the FSM, that will take you through all the various servicing items of your bike. If you are intending to service your own bike that is the wisest advice we can give. And yes, I have them for each of my own bikes!

I have no experience on a switchback, but on my '06 lowrider I can get to the screws with a #2 phillips screwdriver about 12 inches long. I use a small syringe to put the fluid in.
