Brakes look about 1/2 worn. Is it worth it to replace them while installing new front tire?

I've always found brakes & tires to be like gas... the closer you get to empty the faster it runs out.
I'd replace them while you're in there.

Heck yes, 20k is plenty enough. The best part of a pad is the first half. It's really a piece of cake to change out the fronts. One thing to make it easier is to clean around the pistons after you remove the old pads, then install new ones and compress to make room for the disk. If you don't clean the crud out it damages the piston seal when compressing to make room for the thicker pads causing sticking and leaks after it's all together.
