Default 01 electreglide,rear brakes

do I have to remove the rear tire to change the brake pads

It can be done without removing the rear wheel.

I use a putty scraper to get between the pads and rotor to carefully pry the pads back, then remove the 2 pins and you can rotate the pads out. Reinstall the same, you can slide each pad in at a time, make sure you put some of the anti-squeal grease on the back of the new pads first.
