I need to replace the brake pads on the rear of my 06 electra glide. can this be done without wheel removal and what are the best pads to use?

Yes it can. Caliper stays in place.

Not sure about pads. I tried Lyndall pads on front and rear both were noisey. I followed the cleaning directions and they still squeaked but so do OEM.

Yes they are done without removing the wheel. The service manual tells you how to do the swap. It really is an easy job.

As for pads, that may be a touchy subject. Many like the Lyndall pads (myself included) others do not. You can search here for threads on brake pads and also for Lyndall pads.

You can buy a manual, it will show you two bolts to take loose.
And you can remove the caliper take the screws out holdin the brake pads in.
Look at the ECB brake pads. A lot of Indy shops carry them. For the money they are good pads.

If you use Lyndall brake pads up front, you should be able to use HD brake pads on the rear. As you know, it's pretty easy to lock up the rear brakes because most of your braking force is on the front end.

Can replace without removing caliper. I tried Lyndalls after hearing all the hype about them. Tried 4 different sets (from 2 different manufacturing batches) and all of them squealed like pigs on two different bikes (SG and Dyna). Went back to EBC-FA400HH's
(2007 an earlier big twins) and quiet as a mouse.

So easy, a cave man can do it. Just break the smaller bolts loose that hold the pads, then take the larger bolts out. Grab the caliper with a strong hand and pull up and try to twist it sideways, You are pushing back the pistons at this time. Then remove it and take out the bolts you broke loose earlier, BEING careful to only replace one pad at a time so as to NOT loose the spring under the pads. Then reinstall it. I used Lyndalls. It took about 3,000 miles for them to seat in to where the stock pads were before changing them. BUT they produce NO break dust. Amen.

What size socket do you use on the larger bolt? I know it will take a 12 point socket but I have nothing that fits.
