Default Rear Brake Pad Installation

Ok, I did a search, but didn't find the 'how to' that I needed. Rear pads need to be replaced. Am going to do it myself, if someone can tell me what all it entails. Don't think it should be a hard job, but then again, I ain't a wrench!

Gotta pull the rear axle and remove the wheel assembly, to do the job PROPERLY, and CLEAN the caliper pistons....then remove the caliper pins and replace the pads. Normally do pads when ya put on a new rear tire....cause there is more labor involved than doing the front pads. A shop will usually charge 1 hour labor for the rear.

Not a hard job, make sure you only loosen and remove the two smaller 12 point bolts holding the pads in.There is a inner and outer pad ,so be sure and mark which one goes where. When reinstalling new pads, you will have to install one end and start bolt through both pads and then push the other end of pads up in caliper against anti rattle spring to install retaining bolt. Most replacement pads have these instructions.

Easy. Did a set on the side of the road with a borrowed socket in ten minutes. All you need to pull is the right saddlebag and the pads themselves. Pry the pads away from the rotor with a scraper/putty knife being careful not to scratch the rotor. Remove the pins. The pads will likely fall out, but if not, they will slide down with help. Notice their orientation. Put the new ones in the same way. Outboard one goes in first, then slide the pins only in far enough to hold it. Then put the inboard one in and put the pins in the rest of the way. There is a torque spec. for them but I don't have it here at work. Press the brake pedal several times before riding.

What these guys already said....1/4" 12pt socket, rachet, extension, and pads are all you need. No reason to remove the wheel. IMO

Thanks, Gentlemen. Sounds like a 2 or 3 beer job (depending on how fast I drink it!). Didn't see the point in having the stealer do it. Knew I could count on you all!
