Bolt end broken in frame??

The rubber battery box bolt broke off inside the frame on my 81shovelhead.
Any easy fix for this situation?

Grind/file flt the area, center punch it, drill it, heat up the area and hammer in an ez out and you should be good.

You could always weld a nut over it if all else fails.

Tricks of the trade ... Hit the center punch only once ... Then reset and do it again ... Many times striking without re-centering can lead to multiple marks

I do not think those bits would work well for getting that bolt out. Those are used for sheet metal or lighter drilling.

As stated above, get it flush, then center punch and drill with a 3/16 drill bit, then move up in size until you can get an EZ out or until you can get the bolt out with some heat. I would also soak it down with some PB Blaster as it is probably corroded in there and let it sit overnight.

Once you get the bolt out you could put a stud in there with some blue loctite and use a nut to hold the battery tray on. That way if you have to take it off you have access to the nut and can squirt some oil etc on it from time to time to keep it from seizing up.

I'd soak it down with some Kroil penetrating oil and let it sit aty least overnight. Then center punch it and drill to use an easy out. And don't be afraid to use some heat on it.

How hard should I hit center punch........just enough to make a dent for drill bit?
Or should I actually create a hole?
Never did this so excuse my possibly obvious questions!
Tx!

Is A1 oil just as good......that's what I have in hand.

You just need to make a dent so the drill bit does not wander and you can drill in the center of the broken part.

No A1 oil will not work well, you need a penetrating type oil as stated above.

Let me suggest you find a friend who has done this before to show you how to do it.
