Jiffy Stand Maintenance

First of all, props to you for doing it yourself. If you plan to do your own maintenence a HD service manual is great to have on hand. It gives you step by step instructions how to do all the maintenance you'll want to do.
Now...is it sticking or squeaking? If it's working smoothly I wouldn't fool with it. (Don't fix it if it's not broken...)
If you ARE having problems, first look at how the stand works. You have a bracket bolted to the bike and the kickstand enters the bracket from the bottom. Shoot some WD-40 into the small gap between the bracket and kickstand then work it back and forth until it's smooth and quiet.
Otherwise you will have to remove the spring, and while that's not a complicated job, replacing it under tension can get frustrating if you don't know a trick or two.

If you put the bike on a lift or have someone hold it upright, you can remove the bolt on the top of the stand that holds the lock plate in place and rotate the stand forward to release the spring. From there you remove the bolt completely and the stand comes out from below so you can clean and grease it.
