I noticed that the down tubes of the frame on my heritage are coated with what looks like melted grease from the steering head. It has been somewhat warm here in Las Vegas and I was wondering if I should have some high temp bearing grease pumped in to the head? The bike is still under warranty and goes into the dealer soon for service but thought I would get an opinion here also. Thanks.

 

Go to Autozone and get a cheap grease gun (if you don't have one) and a cartridge of wheel bearing grease. Pump it into the steering head zerk until it starts coming out the top and bottom. It's a simple maintenance item that every owner can easily take care of. I can't fit my fat mitts into the space to wipe off the extra grease so it drips onto the tank every once in a while. No biggy.

If your mechanic has been doing his job it shouldn't take much grease because the head should be filled. If it's never been filled (which is how it comes from the factory) then do the job yourself. Seriously, it's easy.

 

Sounds like who ever serviced the bike last time greased it correctly.
What I found is the grease will purge out of the bottom of the neck,then it will collect in the pockets of the lower tripple tree.
Take a close look and you will probly see a ton of grease.Wipe it out the best you can.

 

yes sir, just wipe it and after a few times mine stopped oozing out.
