"Weight, In Running Order"?

A search here turned up nothing.

Hd publishes bike weights in pounds "dry" and pounds "running order". They do not define either in the brochures or on their website. I've heard various opinions on what each means in my 45 years of riding HDs. Does anyone know for an absolute fact what each means specifically?

Tnx!

There's no absolute answer.

Dry=no fluids
...or so I thought

My bike has a 22lb difference between dry and "running order"

Since it's a 4.5 gallon tank, and gas is a little over 6lbs per gallon, I'm guessing running order doesn't include the 24+ lbs of gas so I'm not sure how they come to those numbers.

I found this article on wiki that basically says there's no standardized way to list dry vs wet (running order)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcy...nd_measurement

edit: looks like From Behind beat me to linking that article

Dry means dry.

In running order means Oil + half a tank of gas.

Works as well as any other guess! :D

Maybe they figure 'running order' to be a half tank of fuel :icon_shrug:

hell it could be half a pint, enough to get it started :)

Not sure how much the oil weighs, and if they include the fork as well.. I mean some might like a bumpy ride.

Just as I thought --- nobody knows. I read the Wikipedia page several times in the past and it basically is UN-enlightening. Harley Davidson knows, but they aren't telling!!

Semper Fi - and thanks for your service!
