You neglected your Harley for a metric bike, and then you didn't do a pre-trip inspection before you rode it. You got a full serving of karma. If nothing else, you should always check your brake light before before you get on the bike. OEM Harley batteries are expensive but they're the best, unless you can find a Deka AGM battery somewhere else.

Rocket HD or Fosters HD will do a free test on that battery if you want to drop it off. I'd just get a new one.

Don't leave your heated gear on for even a minute if the motor isn't running. I guess you already know that now though.

Yes yes, I know. Lesson learned.

Motorcycles are jealous bitches. When I went to look at the Fat Bob the first time, I rode the V-Strom. Later, as I was leaving the parking lot, it decided to take a pavement nap on me and break off the clutch lever and turn signal housing.

Salute to all good LEO'S
Imagine how things would be without them!

As for heated gear, I can't believe I rode for more than FOUR decades without it!

Dead battery?
Ours stay on battery tenders all of the time and I replace the batteries in our "road bikes" every third season.
I'll install a new battery in my '13 before our next riding season begins.
Trying to save a few bucks and getting that "last start" out of a battery just isn't worth the risks to me.

State troopers are really just regular guys like the rest of us. And just like us, helping out others make them feel good.

I have the Gerbings heated gear. Their controller shuts off when the voltage get too low, just to keep you from killing the battery. Something for you to look into.

Granted, many people would also be shocked I'm riding a Harley without a tool kit
No offense, but if it were me, I'd be thinking that I could have been carrying a multi-tool. I almost always do, by the way.

Why not use a relay circuit to power the heated gear? Then you wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to turn off the heated gear.
