I like them in cold weather, so there's that.

Been riding all my life, starting with dirt bikes. Always wore a helmet or I wouldn't be here today. Last year I totaled 2 touring bikes (ugly stories). In any case I never got so much as a scratch on either. When I can I ride without when I am in a state where they are not required I do so. To each their own....

A couple of years ago while riding I had a rock thrown by riding lawn mower hit me right in the temple. Luckily I was wearing a helmet. Still almost knocked me off the bike. You do not need to be in an accident to have a helmet be a lifesaver.

I wear a 3/4 dot approved helmet. And have a modular full face in my tour pack. Started raining just asi was leaning work. Popped on the f f. No helmet law in my state. I believe everyone should have a choice. Mine is to wear one. I didn't always. But after 3 heart attacks and being dead once in trying to raise my odds.

Ten years back I was riding behind a belly-dump loaded with class 5 gravel. A rock about the size of a glass marble dropped from the load on to the trailer tire propelling it in a large arch into the air. I saw the rock quickly approaching and the only thing I had time to do was put my chin on my chest while turning my head to the left. The rock ricocheted off the top right portion of my helmet. Upon arriving at my destination and taking my helmet off, I discovered a crater about the size of a quarter was missing from my helmet. If I hadn't been wearing that helmet I would have never arrived at my destination. I wear a helmet without exception.

I ride with a full-face helmet, but am thinking about going back to a beanie for a while. I love the quiet & the road-hazard protection of the full-face, but sometimes it's just a hot, heavy, pain in the butt.

In my 50+ years hanging onto the bars never felt safe with a skid lid. So many do not realize a helmet can also be the cause of ones demise or body function loss. There is no need to keep butting heads over this one simply because there is law fought and won over the right to choose in most states.

Who's butting heads, it's simply good discussion. I haven't read any pissing or rant ravings. Seems most actually agree...rider's choice. But unfortunately if you (not you, speaking in general) live in a state with a helmet law then obviously follow the law or relocate.

I can totally see how a helmet could save lives in a crash or flying debris but I also can see how a DOT helmet could cause a wreck too.

My test idea...Take a putt around a busy parking lot with a helmet on, up and down several lanes and watch and listen to what you can.

Now pull the helmet off and do it all over again and watch and listen. You will catch more doors open around you. You will hear tires, carts, talking, keys, etc even more.

Knowing at all times cages coming up besides you is the first thing you look for to avoid another stupid cager. IMHO A helmet makes you double check and sometimes you may not have time to look first.

Again this is just my HO. You guys do what you want for damn sure. But the best self defense tool we have is knowing our always changing surroundings as soon as possible.

I would rather avoid a crash than be safer in one. Besides they mess my hair up. Looking forward to Missouri dropping the helmet laws.
