Softails are more bottom heavy and balanced and less susceptible to tip-overs than dyna types.
Have her try a Heritage.
I bet she would dig it.

For your Wife a Dyna Switchback is the right Bike, it comes with Bags & you can add a
tour pack for more storage. Or another way would be to add a sissy bar and a rack for T
bags stacked on the seat behind her & on the rack behind that. Make everything quick
detachable, so she can roll out for a cruise in or Bike Night, and still look cool.

Dyna switchback or road king classic which is lower than the standard and can be had for cheap used with little miles on them. I ran across them 5:1 when I was looking for my standard and they were usually less by $1000-2000.00

Only changes I would do to a RKC though is Stage 1, a better seat, and different bars (stock ones are terrible).
Amen, brother.

Softail Deluxe with some bags or the Heritage. She will like both.

Default Night Rod

Let me rock the boat...

My wife is 5'4" and after she sat on a Night Rod she fell in love with it. Bone stock and she can ride it all day. She is flat footed with no changes to the bike.

Add a sissy bar and t-bags and she will leave you on the highway.

She needs to test ride these:

Heritage
Road King
Street Glide
Road Glide

Have her try different seats (I think all the dealers have the full line up of HD seats for test rides).

id stay away from the Breakout if the intention is touring. Im thinking the forward controls on a Breakout would not allow your legs to aid in the support of the rider. Mid controls or anything with footboards will be more comfortable over the long haul. I was tempted by the long, low, stretched out look of the Breakout for just around town riding until I actually sat on one with the front wheel in a chock and put my feet up on the pegs. I knew right away that the look was right, but that it would come with a heavy price. By the time you set up a Breakout to tour comfortably you will have gone too far away from a Breakouts original purpose ,which in my opinion is to be stylin.
