The Switchback was an abortion from day one. If you're going to have a softtail-like bike, get a damned softtail, not something trying to fake its way as one.

The Boss Bags on my bike are leather covered hard bags. I clean them periodically and treat them about twice a year. Other than the fact I don't have to worry about them sagging (hopefully the new Heritage won't either) I haven't had any issues.

I can make mine lockable. I don't think it would take much to make the Heritage bags lockable. To me, I'd want as much usable space as possible. The Switchback bags aren't very roomy.

Plus, subjectively, I prefer the look of leather bags.

Yes, The Heritage is not only a little lighter but it has the HO103 which is a strong mid range performer. has a considerably more comfortable ride, tracks and handles better than the Dyna. What is better on the Switchback? Well nothing at all unless you like high speed steering wobble.

The Heritage has a very nostalgic style that has broad appeal. The Switch Back is sorely lacking in style. It is just an ordinary everyday standard motorcycle.

The Dyna family has cool bikes. The Street Bob, Lowrider and Fat Bob are cool. But the Superglide and Switchback are duds.

Note: The Heritage now has quick release available for the bags and the 16's have top, front and rear stiffeners glued to the leather to prevent sagging. I have seen many 20 to 30 year old leather bags that are in good shape. It takes no more effort to keep nice than the hard bags.

I have 4 softails and in the 88, 96 and 103 versions no A motor can out perform them. The counter balancer's are a negligible component in performance.

The switchback appeals to a different crowd.

Personally I think all the softail models other than the breakout are hideous. White walls, spokes, soft bags and all the chrome does not appeal to me.

No. I've never cared for the Heritage, and would be more inclined to buy the Switchback.

The steel spoke laced wheels -- these are now tubeless, is this correct?
Do they offer roughly the same degree of blowout protection as would a cast tubeless wheel?

I'm reaching the point where I might consider "moving back down" from a full-sized tourer (Road Glide) to something a little lighter.
Could be a Road King, or a Switchback, but this thread has made me realize that the Heritage -- which I always regarded as a beautiful bike but "not for me" -- actually could fill that bill.

Having said that, I believe the time has come to make cruise control and throttle-by-wire standard on the Dyna line. Maybe this is coming for 2017.

I'd like to see the linked "reflex" brake system as well -- same as on the tourers.

I have a Switchback, so obviously biased. Having said that, I don't think one makes the other obsolete. I prefer the styling of the FLD to the Heritage. I see a Heritage, I think the Blue Oyster from Police Academy. I see the FLD, I think Steve McQueen and Bullitt. I've only ridden a 2003 Fat Boy as my reference for the Softail, and it's very different from the Dyna engine. I like the vibe's and visceral quality of the A engine in the Dyna.
