When I first saw the name of the thread I was thinking......"Winterize the bike in Florida.....yeah, make sure the Tank is all gassed up, Oil level is good, Tires have proper pressure......and get the hell out there and ride"
I don't winterize here in the western third of NC. We get ice, snow etc and temps as low as the low teens but the bikes stay in a heated garage hooked up to tenders and I fire them up and tool around 50 miles or so a week.
I do winterized my ride in San Diego. It involves washing off the summer dirt and bugs, in preparation for the winter bugs. However, if the predictions are accurate for a major El Niño year, we may need to install pontoons.
I ride all winter here in Chicago. I don't do anything different then summer riding except what "I" wear. Years ago I would change to 10-40 oil, but the last 3 years I don't even do that. If you think you won't ride the bike for a month - maybe put some Sta-Bil in the tank.
Winterize means something different here.
Keep a battery tender on it, build a small fire under it when it gets below 15 degrees, put screws in the tires for the ice, and cake it liberally with road salt when riding. Try not to aim the snowblower at it when it's parked in the driveway.
Being the helpful, considerate forum member that I am, ship the bike up here, and I'll take care of that for you. No charge.
