Exhaust modification

2012 FLD comes equipped w/ factory 2 into 1 exhaust. If one were to wish to change the visual curb appeal and actually have two pipes seen instead (sound being irrelevant), would the entire exhaust system need to be removed or can the one, larger "slip-on" be removed to expose two individual pipes, that you could then add individual slip-ons? I'm considering getting one and am attempting to figure the after-purchase costs (knowing what I eventually want the bike to look like). So, will I be purchasing a whole set of new pipes... Or just slip-ons?

Whole new set.

New set.. If you can't put them on yourself industry cycles on Garnet in Pacific Beach is a great Indy with good labor rates..

You could see if their's a "ghost pipe" available for that system (basically a dummy pipe you put on to match the other muffler and improve balance, but does nothing).

I agree with having two pipes on it, even if one is a dummy. The look of two pipes is "normal" looking on a Harley.

Agreed. Thats one of the things that makes the look of a Harley tourer, its the dual mufflers out the back.

I guess that is why last 2 exhaust mods I went away from the norm. Past was V&H Big Radius on a Road Glide and now Akrapovic 2 into 1 on my Road King.

So, if I go with let's say a V&H Monster Duals, it is an absolute certainty that I must do a fuel regulating system like the FP3 right? And if that's the case, you guys here ever used the FP3? Is it as easy as they say? I'm a "Two Beard" difficulty guy (referring to Revzilla's way of identifying difficulty levels), so I wanna make sure I'm not getting into something that I cannot complete after beginning the project. And thanks fer tha tips guys and the Indy recommendation. Good stuff to know right there. I have not owned a bike here in California. All my riding has been east coast. North Carolina. I'm just so tired of this whole damn SMOG thing and worrying whether or not my vehicle is gonna pass or if Imma hafta pour another $1,500. into it just to get my tags legal... I'm getting another bike to be my sole transpo from here on out in this state. No more worries AND I get the knees in the breeze again. Daily therapy... And God knows I need it!
