Smaller front sprocket

I am thinking of going down two teeth on my front sprocket. I have 2014 CVO Road King and I want some more snap off the line. . I guess it will add 7% torque to the rear wheel. Does anyone have any experience with this? Did you like the change?

Thank you.

Check the belt run could be close to the arm pivot.

You're not the first person to go through this garbage, I went with a larger rear pulley, 66 tooth rear touring pulley to a 68 tooth rear sportster pulley. One of the best mods that I did.

One of my most favorite mods! Does require dealing with one bad as_ nut, here is my Thread on the swap:

Changing sprockets is simply a trade-off.

What you gain in torque vs what you'll lose in top end speed while running higher RPM's

If most of your riding is local, in city, or in hilly terrain, then a lower gear ratio will benefit you in better torque, better acceleration, and also better MPG's.
However, if you do a lot of touring and like cruising at higher speeds, your engine will be turning higher RPM's and your MPG's will decrease.

I get what you are saying but 6th gear stock is basically useless unless you lug or like to cruise at about 85 mph. The stock gearing on the newer bikes are much taller than the older ones and IMHO is absolutely horrible.

Even now after doing the 30T front pulley and the 68T rear pulley, I still do not find myself in 6th very often - at 70 mph I am pretty happy in 5th. Now if I want to go 75 - 80, 6th gear is great. That's about as fast as I like to cruise but going 100 plus is still easy if some emergency comes up.....;)

You may want to look and see how far back your wheel is in the swingarm. If your already close to the end of adjustment in belt tension, then dropping 2 teeth in the front may put you out of adjustment, requiring a shorter belt. You could always avoid the belt swap by going with a larger rear pulley to make up for the smaller front.

By adding two teeth to the rear pulley alone, when going 80 mph on the speed-o-meeter I am only doing 75 mph. Oh yeah one more thing I am using my stock belt.

I went UP two teeth on my front pulley, to a 34 tooth. Same belt, plenty of adjustment.

I didn't even know you could change sprockets on the touring bikes. If it were me I'd definitely change them up for better torque. Most of the sport bike guys do it and I know it makes a pretty big difference on those bikes.
