Default Oil filter blowing out

A few weeks ago, the oil filter gasket blew out on my 02 Wide Glide. I got a new filter and just did an oil change. Everything was cool, no leaks.

I put a couple of hundred miles on it, put it away.

Today, I fired it up, it ran for a minute, then the oil filter gasket blew out and it start blowing oil.

WTF?

I guess there some kind of oil pressure issue here, like, too much. Something plugged up? Like, oil is getting into the filter but can't get out?

Assuming you haven't done any recent mods and blocked off something somewhere (breather head bolts, etc), maybe a sticking oil pressure relief valve?

Did you oil the gasket before you put the filter on?

I think after you check to see if you left the original gasket on the mating surface,I would get a oil pressure slave gauge and check pressure cold and hot.If all this checks out,I would put a original equipment HD filter on bike.

What filter is it, Harley or aftermarket? Early filters were 30 micron late were 10 micron.Don't remember the cut off year but you don't want the 10 micron on a bike that is supposed to have a 30 micron.

Pretty common problem...usually only requires disassembly, and clean-up with emery cloth.
