...everyone says they are harder to control and your hands will fall asleep if they are above you shoulders. Is this true?
Everyone doesn't know what he's talking about.

I went to the MSFExperienced Riders' Course today. The two instructors told the entire class about 10 times that they thought I wouldnot be able to negotiate the course because I have 16" Apes. Theywere impressed that I was the one showing everybodyup. I had no problems negotiating the course and I've only been riding with 16s for 3 days.

The fact is, my 16" Apes are not difficult to control.

I'm 5'9" and love my 16"ers......handling is really not an issue, not sure why some people think that, it's not been my experience at all...it's also the single biggest eyecatcher on a bike in my experience...

only down side is your hands can go to sleep...that always goes away after a short while though...

The guy I ran into said that handling was not an issue. He thought they were great. The only exception he said was sometimes at parking lot speed under 5 mph. He said that took a little getting used to, but overall thought they handled better.

I have found for me that it depends on how the bars are positioned that matters not so much the height. If they are kicked too far forward they start to make my hands go numb.If you pull them back towards you (so they are inline with the forks and not vertical to the ground)that they are extremely comfortable. The key is not reaching too far out and putting stress on your shoulders. That is what pinches the nerves and cuts down blood flow(causing numbness) I,m 5'-8' and have 14's on 4' risers.

Appreciate all you advice guys. Now I do notice a lot of you have your apes leaning up or forward a little. Seems you would really reach. It does have a little cooler look to em but I would think leaning back a little would be more comfortable.
