Yep, I was gonna say, "Google is your friend" - a quick search on "harley davidson primary chain" brought up articles, pictures, videos. OP, I'd start there and c'mon back here with any more detailed questions...

"2. Belt and primary chain for proper tension, wear or damage."
Also:
"6. Engine oil and primary chaincase/transmission fluid levels."

My bike has a belt and not a chain, so I have no idea what "primary chain" is or "primary chaincase".
I can't check it, if I don't know what/where it is.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Basically you have a 'primary drive' which is from the engine output shaft to the clutch assembly/transmission, and the 'final drive' which is the belt from the tranny output sprocket to the rear wheel.

You can get good info for routine maintenance here and through Google, but if you're planning on getting into more than just routine checks and adjustments, drop the $100 for a shop manual. You don't need the full manual for just the basic stuff.

This is nowhere near as bad as the guy that's been on here for like 4 or 5 years, and doesn't know his Ultra has an oil tank!

its like a timing chain in a cbr. the difference is, its on the side of the motor, not inside the motor. pretty sure that is a good comparison.

If you're gonna keep the bike for a while, get the service manual. It's cheap f-up insurance for if and when you get a hair up your ass to work on it or just want to know how something's attached or whatnot. Save ya some time from dealing with asshats too.

Thanks for everyone's input. I don't have an interest on working on my bike, but the maintenance suggested to be done by the owner in the owners manual includes things like checking primary chain tension, wear, and damage, & checking primary chaincase fluid level, hence my question.

Welcome to the site!

Which CBR ya got?

Is Westminster still known as "Little Saigon?"

I just sold my Honda CBR 1000RR to buy the Harley, and yes Westminster is still representing Vietnam.
