Just got reminded why i hate the Northeast.

Yesterday rode my bike in 65 degree weather. Then not long after i got home a cold front moved through. 3 hours after i rode it started sleeting. Then the power went out. House started getting pretty cold. We where thinking about going to a hotel because the power company had no eta when the power would be back. But then we looked outside. Yep tons of snow belting down. And our 4 wheel drive suv just went to the shop for engine issues. And we cant fit everyone in the Honda Accord. Really dont help that where on top of a mountain and its about a 2 mile stint down just to get off and they rarely plow the road. So we huddled up in one room burned candles and waited it out. Power came on about 2am. Woke up this morning to about 4 inches or so outside. And windy as heck. Really makes me think about trading the new Camaro SS thats in the garage for a new f150 so we have another 4 wheel drive vehicle. This sucks. So much for 65 sunny and riding. Im guessing the bikes in for the winter for good now. At least i got one last ride.

Gliden 11-20-2016 07:31 AM

Yup. Same crap here minus the power outage and the mountain.
Winds sustained at 30 mph through Monday. Gusts near 60. Temp was 35 when I went out for coffee this am.

yellowpearlfb 11-20-2016 07:40 AM

Yup....welcome to winter! Supposed to blow about 30mph today.

Newharleylover 11-20-2016 07:50 AM

The bike is officially put away until spring. 72° on Friday but there was a major cool off yesterday with a nice layer of salt on my street.

Bricklayer 11-20-2016 07:58 AM

Same here, got in a nice ride friday (70 degrees) sat, snow, wind, low 30's

farmboy555 11-20-2016 08:37 AM

Pretty hard to the tire chains on so they don't hit the fender and swing arm LOL. Same here was 75 Friday and 40's this weekend

Spartanden 11-20-2016 08:41 AM

Ahhhhh...., Michigan in November. I feel fortunate I will put bike away tomorrow. Extra week of riding this year. Monday to be sunny and maybe 39-40 degrees. Then she sleeps in heated storage for the winter.
Snow??? It will come.

2goldens 11-20-2016 08:41 AM

Record high in this area Saturday. It's now 34 with light snow. They're all done now if any salt is applied to the road.

mskirwin 11-20-2016 08:43 AM

Yep, same here 45 mile gusts this morning. 70 yesterday. Supposed to be mid 60's by the middle of the week. I ride until it gets about 25 here as long as no snow on the ground.

Have a great Winter!

Redlegvzv 11-20-2016 09:26 AM

Do they still salt the roads out there? Must be hell for corrosion on cars.

indiandave 11-20-2016 09:52 AM

Yesterday 67 and sunny. Everybody was out riding. Today 35 with the ground covered in snow. I might do what the Bears do and hibernate. Wake me up in April.

ChickinOnaChain 11-20-2016 09:55 AM

We woke up to 33° in Texas this morning. But IT IS late November, so I just deal with it, since I can't do anything about it.

Black_Gold 11-20-2016 10:12 AM

Same here....70+ on Friday, low 40s yesterday and 34 right now. Blustery winds both days.

OP, sounds like a good time to invest in a good portable heater and generator!

lmar 11-20-2016 10:16 AM

Yep, we got a few inches of snow last night also. You remind me of my dad, bought a 2 dr Chev Impala SS Coupe in 1967 and he had 3 sons in the back seat. 🙂 Needless to say it was my mom's side of the car we would exist from.

RK4ME 11-20-2016 10:21 AM

It's been a good riding season in West Michigan. The recent weather forecasts have been accurate, and we all knew that last Thursday was the end of it. I was topping-off and adding StaBil to one of my bikes when the first raindrops fell. I should be able to get out a few more times on my DR650 for some gravel back road rides.

Roadflyer 11-20-2016 10:51 AM

The snow is only about 500' above us on the mountain. I give it maybe a week before I'm shoveling.

Imold 11-20-2016 11:15 AM

I keep at least one bike ready all winter, for times the snow isn't too deep.

Tell me again why I should hate living in california ?

dickey 11-20-2016 12:55 PM

I don't understand how you people can live in the north. Freezing cold 8 months outta the year; cold, gray, rainy, depressing. Grey dead trees with no leaves; can't hang outside. Worst has gotta be the Great Lake states, like Michigan & Ohio. What a shithole.
I moved to Florida in 97, after listing 18 different reasons for wanting to leave NYC.
Now, I'd love to leave Florida, but there's only 1 reason for that!

Piloto 11-20-2016 01:48 PM

I was "forced" to live in the north for a few years when I was a kid. My bike was my sole transportation to school in the winter. Rode in snow for a few years. I remember being so cold, I could not open my hands. NEVER AGAIN.

The warm climate states have issues too, but I can still ride when it's 100* out. For the most part, it cools off to a "bearable" temp in the morning and the evening. Theres a lot to be said about riding, camping, fishing... anything that does not involve snow year round. F-Snow. I have no use for the crap.

chamokie 11-20-2016 02:22 PM

Reason to stay in NH number 101,,,,,,,
Wife with four grand kids. I bought a cemetery plot in Fl, guaranteed to get there that way.

Reasons why I love living in the southwest...

Left this morning {from my home 25 miles north of Tucson at 3,400'} at 0700, 54 degrees with no wind. Rolled back home 3 hours later and it was a very pleasant 65. Rode to San Diego last week, arrived to a high of 93 down on the water, 89 the next day and 84 after that.

Projections are for a milder and dryer winter out in the southwest but they are just SWAG's. I have started wearing my medium weight mesh jacket as the light summer model isn't quite warm enough anymore. Add on my leather vest and all is right with the world.... weather wise, for riding.

Ithought of moving to a place like AZ. Hard to give up 30 acres and amazing whitetail hunting. Plus i dont think i would like sand storms. But i would love the weather there.

Bluesrider.df 11-20-2016 04:31 PM

68 degrees yesterday, 120 mile ride. This morning, 5" of snow, 29 degrees now. This too shall pass. There will definitely be more rides this season.

Zakk where are you? I'm in the Poconos.

MatteGlide15 11-20-2016 04:41 PM

Friday afternoon was 75 and sunny.....Saturday evening it was spitting snow. Today I had to clean off the windshield of my truck before heading out! Within 48 hours the temperature dropped over 40 degrees!!!

TriGeezer 11-20-2016 04:51 PM

Yeah sux! Only got up to 66 today. Probably plummet to the low 50s tonite. And...OMG..80% chance of rain late this evening. I'd be out riding right now, but I had a little accident between a utility knife and my finger while removing an oil line.

I'm feeling a little depression right now, it's 58 and raining out. Think cabin fever is setting in :(

Enough said?

torchmaster 11-20-2016 06:29 PM

The ONLY thing I miss about living in Pa are the mountains. Sure don't miss the snow and ice. When I get the itch its only a 6 hr ride to Ga, Nc or Tenn. Which is even nicer than up north with the exception of Vt.
Never been further west than Tx but its on my bucket list.

Glyder54 11-20-2016 06:45 PM

Some people love to have all 4 seasons. Me...guess I lived with it all my life so Im used to it. I dont see how people do it other places like up in Canada or Alaska. Montreals a nice place Ive been but winter is BRUTAL!

Bluehighways 11-20-2016 06:51 PM

Keep posting pictures of the: snow, ice, sleet, and those salt / ice / slush / sand covered roads. I just love it when I have a bit of help jump starting my memory of winter's gone by. That way I can clearly remember one of the many reasons why I live in Southern California. Other reasons include: December, January, February and most of March. Now, y'all tune in and watch the Rose Bowl Parade on New Years Day, so you can suffer with us and our winter weather now.

Heck, even the birds and half the population of Minnesota move south for the winter.

I meant a heater like this one....

http://www.ruralking.com/mr-heater-3...FZI7gQodnRAFiA

I always have a spare tank on hand, so I don't run out, even for grilling.

*whisper* I back feed my generator through an outlet in the garage (after throwing the main breaker). It feeds the kitchen and main living area, so we can at least be somewhat comfortable. *whisper/*

Problem solved. Just get an automatic standby generator. Then add a snowmobile and have fun in the snow. See how easy life is.

Totally agree with you, Dickey. My only problem is I'm working for the State Government and want to reach 30 years of service before I can retire. Got about 6 to 8 more years then I'm moving to Central Florida (Ocala area) for good.

I bet that this "little" storm we got last night that left 16k people in various area's without power (Me included) makes you wish that it would happen sooner.

I'm sipping my 2nd cup of coffee working up the "Go" to hit the 8-12" of the white crap off my driveway.

I keep reminding myself that I love my kids and would miss them........

They aren't dealing from a position of strength right now. :icon_biggrin:

mjrfd99 11-21-2016 09:47 AM

Prepare before the lights go out. Yeah move to Florida I did P/T for yrs now.
Had a rental in Punta Gorda before Charlie- then I didn't. Wife lived in Homestead until Andrew. Then she didn't.
Paradise has a few warts.

Yeah, Saw the news on TV this AM that mostly Greece and Webster are w/o Power. Florida has been on my mind for the last 2 years. Just tired of the cold, snow these days and want to be where it's warm with Blue and Sunny skies every day.

You got more snow than I did. Probably got 3" or less right now due to Blowing Winds.

Have utmost respect for you regarding your kids. Wish I am the same. Haven't talked to them in nearly 7 years.
