recommended that you change the battery yearly. me personally, I wait until the battery dies (usually get 3+ years out of them) because I don't find it all that difficult to use the pin to get me started.

I really don't understand all the negativity towards it. it's a super simple system. just walk away and the bike is armed. come back, it's disarmed. the hardest part is putting your keys in your pocket. you wouldn't go on a roadtrip without your keys would you? how would you lock your forks or saddlebags then?

set your pin, then practice a couple of times and you'll be good to go. for pin suggestions, 1st 5 of ssn, last 5 of ssn, last 5 of phone number, or any other 5 easy to remember digits. do not use the last 5 of your vin, many dealers use that as default. one of the first that a thief will try.

And that is why I never use the useless "security system" on my '03 UltraClassic.
If I remember correctly, the PIN was 1-1-1-1-1, done alternately on the right to left turn signals. But first you had to do a voodoo dance and pat your self on the top of the head while chanting hope it works 5 times.

That's funny stuff! Seriously though it is far easier then that.

But I agree since usually it is not needed, for it's intended function, it is usually 'useless'. But it if is ever needed it can be nice to have.

May I suggest that a site like Google Keep or Evernote or other web-based note systems are great for storing important information (but not things like passwords).

Accessible anywhere and doesn't get lost in moves, fires, etc.

Buy a used TSM for $25 on ebay and replace your TSSM with it. Marry the TSM with your bike(15 min procedure all over the web or this site) and you are done!!

Where's the OP, we made suggestions for him. I hate hit and runs.

Not sure about that long ago but some dealer set the pin at their Zip code. Until you change it.
