Nothing you can do about it unless you want to tear it down precautionary. Just ride.

And starting them doesnt do anything. Needs to be on a tender or actually ridden to charge the system

Agree with the above - change the oil while you're at it and don't overthink it, the bike should be okay - just chalk it up to a lesson learned and remember nobody knows everything - even those here on the Forums

You are in NJ, right? Every once in a while, milder weather moves in. Take advantage of that and take it out on the highway for a half hour or so. That's the winter maintenance that a Harley Davidson motorcycle needs.

How can anyone get enough fuel into their tank to run a 10 hour duty cycle? Even at idle, a 5 gallon tank might do 6 or 7 hours at most.
Take your keys from your FIL also. He is having troble remembering things. Alzheimers/dementia is a thief.

I didn't read all the responses so if someone else mentioned this, I apologize.

My suggestion is to do a compression test and a leak down test. The biggest concern is the pistons, cylinders and valves and the above mentioned test's will let you know if any damage was done there.

The smell you mentioned could be burned oil.

Hope you don't have any problems and also, I agree with the tender suggestions.

Good luck.

I think you're okay. Think of Endurance testing when the MoCo tests their engines when designing/qualifying. I do agree with others to change your oil. Also what helped you out was the cold weather.

Take a look at your pipes all the way from the heads to the mufflers. Are they discolored blue anywhere? If they are you may have overheated it.

Now you're going to change the oil regardless but dip your finger in the old oil and see if it's black and sticky. This could be another sign that you've overheated the engine.

Do a sniff test. Try to identify if something has burned. Get your nose in there smell around, esp. in areas where the engine gets hot. Stick your nose down the oil fill hole too. You could find a clue.

After the oil change, start it up and watch the exhaust for blue or black smoke. If you see either, that's not good. Keep looking and sniffing as the bike is idling.

I would take it for a ride if I could too. Stop a couple of times and do the general look around/sniff thing. Just think common sense. If all is well, ride it.
