I didn't read all the responses so if someone else mentioned this, I apologize.
My suggestion is to do a compression test and a leak down test. The biggest concern is the pistons, cylinders and valves and the above mentioned test's will let you know if any damage was done there.
The smell you mentioned could be burned oil.
Hope you don't have any problems and also, I agree with the tender suggestions.
Good luck.

Take a look at your pipes all the way from the heads to the mufflers. Are they discolored blue anywhere? If they are you may have overheated it.
Now you're going to change the oil regardless but dip your finger in the old oil and see if it's black and sticky. This could be another sign that you've overheated the engine.
Do a sniff test. Try to identify if something has burned. Get your nose in there smell around, esp. in areas where the engine gets hot. Stick your nose down the oil fill hole too. You could find a clue.
After the oil change, start it up and watch the exhaust for blue or black smoke. If you see either, that's not good. Keep looking and sniffing as the bike is idling.
I would take it for a ride if I could too. Stop a couple of times and do the general look around/sniff thing. Just think common sense. If all is well, ride it.
