Brand new Harley break in
#11
There are a lot of different thoughts on "Break-In"? Break it in, like you stole it ? Guys are putting them on a Dyno, all Broke- In , in a 1/2 hour! Then there's the "Slow", 1K, H-D Break -In ? My understanding, the Factory BreaksIin every motor? Then the Dealer gets it, UnCrates it, preps it, suppose to check all fluids, nuts & bolts, etc. ? Most Dealerships have 1 or 2 Real Good Experienced Riders, that Break them in, Pretty Good? The Verdict is still out, Beat It or Baby It, Break-In!
I bought a New 99 Evo FXSTC, last Evo! My manual covers the 99 Evo Softail & the New 99 Twin Cam Rubber Mounts, it stated I should change the tranny fluid at 500 miles, then again at 1000 miles with motor & primary? Who knew? My Certified Harley Tech of 45 years didn't, he never saw the 500 mile tranny change note? Stay Safe!

Everyone has a different idea on what's best for their new machine, do what makes you comfortable

Even that is covered in the manual. Also, if you change it before storage, no need to change after.

What does it say in the owner's manual? That's what HD says you need to do, and since they designed and built the bike and all, they just might know what they're talking about here.

The last new bike that I bought was my '13 CVO Ultra with the 110 engine.
I drove it no differently on the way home than I have everyday since.
I took it in for the 1,000 miles service and had Rinehart XT True Duals and a dyno tuned at the same time.
If an engine can be put through a dyno tune with only 1,000 miles on it, I should be considered "broken-in". and if it can't survive, well, it's just broken!
