If the dealer charges you a get ready fee when you buy the bike, why wouldn't that 500 mile service be free?.,,

Old iron that was the rule, even suggest it on rebuilds now but on a factory new motorcycle do the 1K service like the manual says.

Dealers in my are don't recommend any big service or inspection at 500mi. Just a basic oil change to check the engine and get out any break-in debris.

I have never heard of a 500 mile service?

The 1000 mile is critical and should be done timely.

Not according to the owner's manual written by the engineers that built the bike. But that is not good enough for some .

I would like to add that I realize that not all bikes require the same maintenance but according to my manual my Springer was supposed to be brought in at 500 miles, after that, the next checkup was at 2500. Also according to my manual all the other Softail models had their first checkup at 1000 miles.

I am thinking who ever told you that does not really know what they are talking about. First scheduled service is at 1K as it should say in your owners manual
