If you really want to be cool, be yourself. Riding a Harley doesn't make one cool. Neither does wearing leathers and other biker paraphernalia. The same applies to riding other makes of bikes. It's all about how you present yourself as a person.

Being cool is an opinion. If others think your cool, then you are to them, but if another crowd just thinks your a roaming asphalt, well, you catch my drift. Does what other people think really matter? Probably not unless your running for some public office and I'm sure all of us have an opinion about them. It certainly isn't about them being cool.

Me, I ride a 2010 FLHX. Sure I get looks all the time. Some good and some bad. Do you really think I give a rats behind either way? I just smile and keep on going.

If you are already cool, the bike will help you get laid more. And perhaps get you in a lot of trouble.

I think we're looking at a reverse cause and effect thing here. Back in the old days, when bikes weren't so mainstream, nor as reliable, it took a special breed of man to own and ride one regularly. So what happened is, over the years, what it took to be a biker (there are other threads to argue those specifics) became watered down and it was easier for non bikers to play make believe. However, during that transition, the bike and attire was still seen by many as part of what it took to be that person, so people would get the bike and attire (some only got the attire) figuring that the act of doing so would make them into the type of person they were mimicking.
